On Thursday, March 10, 2022, Victor Roy Williams, the eldest son of the late Inez Coleman Fairweather, transitioned from labor to reward in his beloved Jamaica, West Indies, the land of his birth. He was born on September 21, 1942 in May Pen, Jamaica, where he was raised by his grandmother, the late Grace Ann Coleman, whom he lovingly called “Mommy G.”

Victor graduated from May Pen High School in 1958 and enrolled in trade school. Soon after, he married his sweetheart, Verna McGill, and their union was blessed with seven children.

In 1969, Victor learned that the United States needed skilled tradesmen, so he immigrated to the U.S. as a Master Welder and Mechanic to provide a better life for his family. It wasn’t long after his arrival that he sent for his wife and children, and they settled in New Haven, CT. In 1972 the family made the Newhallville neighborhood their home.

Victor’s relocation to America greatly influenced his family’s path as he built a new life. His career spanned more than forty-years at US Steel, National Oil, and Estes Transportation; and he was the most sought-after mechanic/handyman/tinkerer and friend in Newhallville and beyond. He loved and supported, not only his family, but anyone in need. Victor also enjoyed his wife’s delicious Jamaican cooking, a good game of dominoes, computer solitaire, Sudoku, and an occasional trip to the outdoor thrift shop; but most of all, he enjoyed being surrounded by his family and friends. In addition, Victor attended Promise Land Church with Verna for many years. His hands and his heart were never idle.

His memory will be cherished by his wife Verna; his children Elaine (Glendon) Williams, Sharon (Willie) Harriott, Michael (Arlene), Noel (Maria), Deborah, Howard (Jacqueline), and Gregory (Laura) Williams; grandchildren, James and Regina Harriott, Rachel, Olivia, Isaiah, Noah, Daniel, Damaris, Joshua, Candace, Victoria, Maxwell, Gabrielle and Gideon Williams; one great-grandson Noah Moylan Williams;siblings Winston, Gladstone (Joan), Verna, Vernal (Bobbet) Fairweather and Carol(Allen) Brown, and as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A celebration of his life will be held Friday, April 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Promise Land Church of God, 240 Burwell Road, West Haven, CT 06516 with a calling hour beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Beaverdale Memorial Park.
