John Alfred Hicks, 78, of New Haven, entered eternal rest on July 18, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Alvenia Hicks for 47 years.

Mr. Hicks was born in Oriental, NC, on April 6, 1944, a son of the late Lester Hicks, Sr. and Fannie Hicks.

He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marines and after 25 years of employment, retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as a Machinist.

In addition to his wife, John leaves to cherish loving memories, a daughter, Michelle Gore-Hicks; grandchildren, Steven C. Haywood, Jr., Na’Oni M.A. Haywood, Ray’Jon W.M. Sanders-Boyd; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by brothers, Alexander Hicks, Lester Hicks, Jr. and Wilbur Hicks; and sisters, Golden Hicks-Johnson, Clara Bell Hicks-Green, Mariah Mary Hicks and Hannah Hicks.

A memorial service to celebrate Mr. Hicks’ life and legacy will be held Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at Bible Gospel Center, 143 Leeder Hill Dr., Hamden, CT.

The family of Mr. John Alfred Hicks is forever grateful for all the prayers, love and expressions of sympathy, extended to them during this difficult time. Due to the ongoing concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, the family is asking that well-wishers not stop by the home of Mrs. Alvenia Hicks. To continue to adhere to COVID-19 safety precautions, a repast will not be held following the memorial service.
