Janie Mae Roberson, 85, of New Haven, entered eternal rest on February 7, 2024.

Ms. Roberson was born in Kingstree, SC on November 15, 1938, a daughter of the late Charles Franklin Nesmith and Louise Driffin Nesmith.

She was employed for numerous years at various industrial facilities as a domestic worker.

She leaves to cherish loving memories, her children, Sherell, Kevin and Renee, all of New Haven, CT and Curtis of Sanford, NC; a sister, Caretha Billups of Kingstree, SC; grandchildren, Derrell of New Hampshire, Alexis of New Haven, Jevon of New Haven, Dewayne of Hartford, Jaylyn of New Haven, Tashaun of Las Vegas, Tyler of Virginia, Justin of New Haven, Cullen of New Haven, Curtis Jr. of West Haven, Aaron of Middle East, Nosha of of North Carolina of Kaliyah, North Carolina, Kymia of North Carolina; great grandchildren, Saniyah of Meriden, Syhire of New Haven, Saige of New Haven, Jamari of New Haven and Sofia of Maine; a longtime friend, who was more like a sister, Mrs. Etta Murphy who said to me, “oftentimes we do not know what flower God is going to pluck from His garden.”

She was predeceased by two sons, Ray and Michael; a sister, Eleanor Bryant; and a great grandchild, Mackensie.

A memorial service to celebrate Ms. Roberson’s life and legacy will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. at Varick Memorial AME Zion Church, 242 Dixwell Ave., New Haven.
