Gloria Davis-Delancy, 65 of Bloomfield, CT, and formerly of New Haven, CT was born in Selma, AL on June 6, 1958, a daughter of the late Bessie Davis and a wife to Obed Delancy for 31 years.

Gloria entered eternal rest on June 25, 2023.

Gloria received her Bachelor Degree in Psychology/Public Administration from Fisk University, in Nashville, TN. Gloria went on to a Masters Degree in Public Administration, from the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio. Gloria worked at Yale New Haven Hospital, New Haven, CT for 4 years. Gloria then joined the State of CT where she worked as a Chief Fiscal Administrative Officer for 33 years before she retired in 2021.

Gloria was a wife, mother, aunt, sister, daughter, and friend. Gloria loved to shop, cook, and visit with family. Gloria was loved by many, and she was a wonderful friend. Gloria was a compassionate, loving person who always was there for her family through good times and had.

Gloria is survived by her husband, Obed W. Delancy, Daughter Vaniah Capri Delancy; Son, lan S Higgs-Delancy; Sister Bennie M. Watkins (who raised her); Brothers, Benjamin William McCurdy, and Michael Paul Davis; Nephew, James McCurdy, Damon Delamcy, Ryan Rolle, Leonardo Taylor (Floyd), Selznick Righy, Savion Righy (Karen), Adrie Ewing (Teri), Andre Delaney, Bernardo Rahming (Selma); Nieces, Rosemary Williams, Diane Watkins and Donna Watkins (John), Sonovia Sears (Floyd), DeAndre Cartwright, Bernea Rahming (Selma), Rhian, and Rhys Davies (Teri), Sargeant, and Simone Righy (Karen); Great Nephew, Michael Houston and Andre Watkins (Olivia); as well as Niece, Taylor Nicolle Mitchell; Mother-In Law Christina Delancy, Sister-in Law, Karen Delancy, Teri Delancy-Davies, Selma Delancy-Rahming, Jessicah Delancy-Marza, and Dolly Delancy (Floyd; Brother in Law Floyd Delancy, and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by Brothers, Julius, Jerome, and Alonzo Davis, a Sister, Rosemarie Davis, Great Aunt Rosa, “Aunt Love” Etheridge, and Great Uncle, Roosevelt “Uncle Mack” Smitherman.

The family sends special thanks and deepest appreciation to all the medical staff at Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center, Hartford, and the staff of Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital, Hartford.

Also, a special thanks to Miss. Dawn Moodie, of Second Chance Home Care for all of her help. Gloria was blessed to have someone like Miss. Dawn in her life during her good and bad times. Miss. Dawn was caring, attentive, and a truly good friend to Gloria.

A celebration of Mrs. Davis-Delancy’s life and legacy will be held Friday, July 7, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. The viewing and visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 A.M. The burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
