Fannie Elizabeth Perry Brooks, 86, of New Haven, entered eternal rest on May 24, 2024. She was the widow of Johnnie Brooks.

Mrs. Brooks was born in Dunn, NC, on November 15, 1937, a daughter of the late Chester Perry and Sarah Williams Perry.

Fannie was a longtime member of Union Temple Baptist Church in New Haven, CT.

Prior to retiring, she was employed at Yale University in the Dining Services Department and had also been employed by Community Action Agency in the Social Services Department.

Fannie leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Johnnie Brooks, Jr. of New York, New York and Abdurrahim Shakir, Malcolm Brooks, and Eric Brooks of all of New Haven, CT; daughters, Linda Miller of Auburn, Alabama, Deborah Brooks- Rodriguez of Meriden, CT, Sarah Allen (Wayne) of New Haven, CT, Denise McCrae of Fayetteville, NC and Pamela Brooks of New Haven CT; 29 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Sally Slade and Thelma Penn; godsons, Evan Kennard Simmons and Kenneth Green; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by brothers, Chester Perry, Jr., James Perry, Jerome Perry and John Perry; and sisters, Beatrice Stallings and Mary Johnson.

A celebration of Mrs. Brooks’s life and legacy will be held Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Union Temple Baptist Church, 54 Platt St., New Haven. A viewing will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. The burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
