Rose J. Jones, 82, of Hamden, entered eternal rest on April 23, 2021. She was the widow of Thomas Jones, Jr.

Rose was born in Dumas, Arkansas on November 17, 1938, a daughter of the late James Wesley Jenkins, Sr., and Ruth Watson Jenkins. The family relocated to New Haven in 1943. Rose graduated from James Hillhouse High School in 1956. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Business and Economics magna cum laude from Albertus Magnus College in 1989.

Rose’s first full-time job was at Jack Halprin and Associates from 1957 to 1983. She then was employed for 29 years at the Regional Water Authority in New Haven, where she retired as an Accounting Manager in 2012.

Rose was a founding member of Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church in Hamden where she served as a faithful Deacon and a Trustee. She served as the church’s treasurer for 30 years.

She leaves to cherish loving memories, a daughter, Stephanie K. Jones; son, Kenneth T. Jones (Lauraline); her grandchildren, Corey O. Brown, Justin T., and Jonathan M. Jones; Jennaya N., Neko T., Isaiah T., and Daniel C. Jones. A brother, Donald Jenkins, Scottsdale AZ; sisters, Ernestine Duell, Raleigh NC, Jeane Jennings, Avon, Ruby J. Smith, and Dorothy Martin both from Hamden, and Joyce Fountain, Elgin, IL; an “adopted” sister, Rosa Edwards, New Haven; a sister-in-law Mae Francis Smith, New Haven, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was predeceased by a brother, James Wesley Jenkins, Jr. and a sister, Evelyn Hunt.

A celebration of Mrs. Jones’ life and legacy will be held Monday, May 3, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. at Beulah Heights First Pentecostal Church, 782 Orchard St. New Haven. A maximum of 125 people will be allowed to attend the celebration of life. Burial will be in Hamden Plains Cemetery. A walk-through viewing will be held at the church from 9:00-11:00 A.M. Anyone attending the celebration of life, viewing or burial must adhere to all COVID-19 safety precautions.
