Sylvia “Betty Louise” Gray Thigpen Moore, 86, of Hamden, CT passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Yale New Haven Hospital.
She was born on November 30, 1934 in Greenville, North Carolina to Amos Thigpen and Flossie Carmon. At an early age she married Jimmy Lee Moore. From the marriage they had seven children. He preceded her in death on August 13, 1997. Mother, as she was affectionately called, worked for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft for 26 years and found pleasure in baking cakes. “Mother” was a member of Mount Zion Seventh-Day Adventist Church where she took pleasure in volunteering for numerous church functions.
She leaves to mourn, her children, Diane Bartlett of Hamden, Linda Moore of Hamden, Sheila Gary (Billy) of New Haven, Michael Moore (Sharlene) of Wallingford, Annette Ford (Gilbert) of White Plains, MD and Vincent Moore (Rhonda) of Hamden; 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jimmy L. Moore; a son, Jeffery A. Moore; brothers, Edgar, Matthew, Amos Jr., Preston, James and Willie Isaac Thigpen; and sisters, Lucy Cox, Mattie Sims, Ida Atkinson and Ethel Joyner.
A Celebration of Mrs. Moore’s life and legacy will be held Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at 11:00 a.m.* at Mt. Zion Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 64 Marlboro St., Hamden. A Walk-through viewing will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Anyone attending the celebration of life, viewing or burial must adhere to any and all COVID-19 safety precautions and restrictions.

Repast services will be held at Whitneyville Cultural Commons, 1253 Whitney Ave Hamden, CT 2:00 – 5:00 pm.
Mother, I will love you forever!! You were a selfless and loving person that always made sure your family had what they needed. I appreciate our relationship and will always cherish it. Thank you so much for waiting for me! I miss you already.
