Reverend Richard D. Morton, Sr. 81, of Hamden, CT, departed this life, September 1, 2021, after a brief illness.
He was born September 16, 1939, in Athens, GA, a son of the late Alvin and Mae-Willie Morton.
Reverend Morton was a long- time associate minister for Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church in New Haven, CT and served for many years as the pastor’s Coordinator. He faithfully served with New Haven Inter-Faith Cooperative Ministries, as well as New Haven’s Association of Clergy and the Hamden Democratic Town Committee.
Prior to his retirement, Reverend Morton was employed as a Foreman for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in North Haven, CT.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of more than 50 years, Mrs. Nellie Morton, as well as his brothers, Floyd Morton, Sr. of Ocala, Florida and Samuel Morton of Hamden, Connecticut; and sisters, Lila Dorsey, Alicestine Morton, Bobbie-jean Morton, Veronica Morton all of Athens, GA and Cora Walton of New Haven, CT.
Left to carry-on his legacy are sons, Bishop Richard D. Morton, Jr.( Ayileru ) and Elder Reginald Morton(Maria), both of Hamden, CT; grandchildren, Jasmine Marie Morton, Richard Douglas Morton III, Stephen-Daniel Morton and Jenaya Regina Morton; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Reverend Morton’s life and legacy will be held Friday, September 10, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church, 1324 Chapel St., New Haven. A viewing will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 A.M. The burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park, New Haven. Anyone attending the service must adhere to all COVID-19 safety precautions.
