Phillip Lee Moye Sr., affectionately known as Phil, peacefully transitioned from this side of life, surrounded by his loved ones at Yale New Haven Hospital on November 2, 2024. Phil entered this world on a beautiful summer Wednesday, June 28, 1978, born to his loving parents, Zelda Moye and Phillip Allen. His life was further blessed by his caring mother, Sarah Allen. Phil was a lifelong resident of New Haven, CT, attending New Haven Public Schools throughout his life.

What a blessing it is to have been loved by Phil and to have given him love in return. A love so true that it will forever live on in our hearts and minds. Phil loved to laugh and share jokes here and there. He loved to dance and cherished his R&B music. You could often find Phil singing his favorite songs from his heart while he was cleaning.

Phil was known for his humble and quiet nature. To those he felt comfortable around, Phil would open up, sharing laughter and good conversations. Even in his quiet moments, his words carried great meaning. Being around Phil brought a sense of peace; he was truly a peaceful soul.

Phil loved his family and friends deeply. He was a kind and sensitive soul, loving wholeheartedly. His laughter was contagious, and when he started laughing, it would make everyone around him laugh as well. Phil enjoyed watching football, basketball, and comedy movies that kept him laughing. He also loved watching scary movies. Even though they scared him, he couldn’t resist them. Action movies were another one of his favorites. Phil loved to eat; despite his small frame, he had a hearty appetite.

Throughout his life, Phil worked various jobs, including at KFC, Star Tires, Burger King, and Yale University. He was blessed to become the father of three beautiful children whom he cherished and the grandfather of a precious granddaughter whom he adored. Phil will truly be missed here on this earth. The word “missed” doesn’t capture the depth of our feelings for him.

Phil had a unique way of showing his love. Though he may not have always said it out loud or done what others thought was right, his love was true. Phil is now able to rest in a perfect place of peace with his Heavenly Father. As a little boy, he attended New Bethlehem Church on Orchard Street with his late grandmother, Lillie Mae Grant. He knew God, and God knew him. Although he may not have attended church regularly in later years, he knew God. God makes no mistakes; He called His son, Phillip Lee Moye Sr., home when he saw it was time. God gave Phil his time on earth to share his love, laughter, and kindness, and he did so abundantly.

Phil leaves behind his loving family: his parents, Zelda Moye, Phillip Allen, and Sarah Allen, all New Haven, CT; his children, Phillip Lee Moye Jr., Adonis Booker, and Mahogany Moye, all of New Haven, CT; his three bonus children, Shaquetta Foster, Laniya Givan, and Lavon Givan; all from New Haven, his beloved granddaughter, Payton Moye of Hamden, CT; and the love of his life his fiancée, Ebony O’Bryan of New Haven, CT.

He is also survived by his siblings: Darnella (Bernie) Tucker, Isaiah (Kiesha) Moye, Darrell (Eugenia) Moye, and Treasure Moye, all of New Haven, CT; Tanisha (Ludger) Chikel of Malden, MA; Kareem (Courtney) Moye, Dominque Evans of New Haven, CT; Alyssa Allen of Hamden, CT; Phillip (Sharon) Allen, Marquis (Donesha) Evans, and Precious Evans, all of New Haven, CT; and Harold Agnew of Hamden, CT. Additionally, he leaves behind 26 nieces and nephews, 2 great-nieces, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who will carry on his love and legacy.

Phil was predeceased by his grandparents, Robert Moye, Betty Baker, Lillie Mae Grant, Phillip Allen; Johnnie and Fannie Brooks; his uncle, Richard “Earl’ Allen; his aunt, Rose Williams; his godmother, Maryann Thomas; and a very special cousin, Johnnie (JR) Belle, who was like a brother to him.

Phil will forever be loved and missed here on earth. Though we may shed tears, we will also find the strength to smile, laugh, and love as he did. Despite any challenges, he lived his life with laughter and love in his heart. Those qualities will not fade; they live on in each of us.

A celebration of Phillip’s life will be held Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Christian Union Full Gospel Outreach Ministries, 426 Washington Ave., West Haven. Viewing will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 A.M. The burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, 769 Ella T. Grasso Blvd., New Haven.
