Phillip Douglas Thorpe, 66, of New Haven, entered eternal rest on January 24, 2021. He was the husband of Rita Thorpe
Phillip was born in New Haven, CT on January 12, 1955, a son of the late Louis Edward Thorpe, Sr. and Addie Virginia Thorpe.
He was employed for a combined 38 years at Grace Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, GA, Yale-New Haven Health and MidState Medical Center as a Certified Surgical Technologist. Phillip served in the Navy and received an honorable discharge.
He was a longtime member of St. Matthew’s UFWB Church in New Haven where he served on the Men’s Club. He was an avid collector of watches; enjoyed secondhand shopping, going on walks, as well as listening to The Beatles, Vivaldi, Beethoven and Mozart. One of his favorite television shows was Gunsmoke and one of his favorite vacation destinations was Montego Bay. He was an amateur photographer and loved taking photos. Phillip would grace us with his beautiful voice from time to time, especially at Karaoke nights on the many Island trips and Cruises. No one was a stranger to him.
In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish loving memories, a brother, Louis Edward Thorpe, Jr. (Wanda); a sister, Linda Thorpe (Stanley Welch); and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Phillip’s life will be held at a later date.
