Michael Gerard Davis passed on January 12, 2022. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, on April 20, 1977, to John and Olivia Davis. Michael attended New York Public Schools. He later moved to New Haven, CT, in 1993, where he later participated in Adult Education.
People speak kindly of his humanity, kindness, and support. Even through his own struggles, he always supported others and encouraged them to do better. Michael had friends from all walks of life. He never was a person to judge the next person. He was a fearless person and kept it honest. He also loved animals and enjoyed the peacefulness of being out in nature.
Michael loved his kids. He always did all he could to make them happy. He never missed a birthday, whether he celebrated with them or sent gifts from afar. All the kids loved “Uncle Michael.” He was the uncle who took all the kids to the park, fixed everyone’s bikes, made sure he taught them how to ride. Then took them on long bike rides as our dad did with him to keep the family tradition.
Michael believed in family. He was always there for his parents. He would always say, “I can’t leave; someone has to help mommy and daddy.” He was a great caregiver with solid attention to detail. He saw nothing as a challenge. If you gave him a project, he would succeed at completing it to the best of his ability.
Michael leaves to cherish his memory, his parents John and Olivia Davis of New Haven, CT (formerly of Brooklyn, NY), his daughter, Amanda Davis of Brooklyn, NY; son, Michael Davis Jr. of New Haven, CT; grandson, Shidee Rico Herbert of Brooklyn, NY.; brothers, James Davis of West Haven, CT and John Davis (Freedom) of New Haven, CT; and his only baby sister, Olivia Davis-Watkins (Andre) of Hamden, CT; nieces, Nikeyia (Kevin), Twanna, Topeka, Johnna, and Jania; nephews, Darren, John IV, Silas, and Aiden; 5 great nieces and nephews; a maternal grandmother, Evelyn Harris of New Haven, CT; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Michael was predeceased by his grandmother, Oneeda Borington of Brooklyn, NY; grandfathers, Silas Harris of New Haven, CT, & John Davis of Brooklyn, NY; and his great grandmother, Willie Bell Odums of Dover, DE.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held Monday, January 24, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Temple Church, 285 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. A viewing will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 A.M. The burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Anyone attending the services must adhere to all COVID-19 safety precautions.
