Lucinda Cox Neverson, 94, received her wings on Saturday, January 1, 2022, in the presence of loved ones in New Haven, Connecticut. Lucinda, affectionately known as Cindy, Lu and Aunt Lu, by those close and dear to her, was born April 10, 1927, in Farmville, North Carolina to the late William Henry and Annie Williams Cox. Lucinda graduated from the H. B. Sugg K-12 school, and was a member of the family’s church, Moyes Chapel UAFWB Church in Farmville, NC.
Lucinda’s first stop on her journey north was in Washington, D.C. In the early 60’s, she continued on her journey up north and made New Haven her home. She secured employment at the Veterans Administration Hospital (Dietetic Services), West Haven, CT, retiring after 23 years. She accepted the invitation and made St. Matthew’s U.F.W.B. Church her church home of more than 50+ years.
Lucinda is survived by her two daughters; Gwendolyn (William) Branison and Marietta N. King; five Grandchildren, Teresa, William, Daryl (Deceased), Renee Branison and Drew King, II; four Great-grandchildren, Dalante Branison, Sr., Tabatha Hill, Jailin Cain and Jariya Nestfield; three Great-grandchildren, Sierra, Sionna and Dalante Jr., Branison one sister-in-law; Annie Doris Ebron Cox; and a host of nephews, nieces, bonus sons/daughters and extended family to cherish her memory.
Lucinda was predeceased by her husband, the late Elmer Neverson Sr., son Elmer Neverson, Jr., daughter Priscilla Neverson and grandson Daryl Branison.
She was predeceased by all her siblings: brothers, John Arthur Cox, William Thomas Cox, Andrew Cox, Jr.; sisters, Annie Lee Cox Lane, Bettie Mae Cox, Mary Alice Cox Tyson, Marjorie Cox Ward, and Murdis Ruth Cox Gay; and nephew, Robert Lee Cox.
A Celebration of Lucinda’s Life and Legacy will be held Monday, January 10, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew’s U.F.W.B Church, 400 Dixwell Avenue, New Haven. Viewing 10:00-11:00 a.m. Anyone attending the celebration of life, viewing or burial must adhere to any and all COVID-19 safety precautions and restrictions.
