Lou Ella Cooke, 73, of Oxford, CT, departed this life at 9:00 a.m., on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Griffin Hospital, in Derby, CT.
She was born on February 10, 1946, in North, South Carolina to the late Garfield and Annie Lou Yon.
Prior to retiring, she was employed at Burndy’s as a Machine Operator. Before relocating to Oxford, she was a longtime member of Mt. Olive COGIC in Waterbury, where she served as an Usher and on the Mother’s board.
Ms. Cooke is survived by her children, Steven Yon of Waterbury, CT, Darlene Vildzius and her husband, Donatas, of Oxford, CT and Christopher Yon, Sharon Yon and Gregory Yon all of Waterbury, CT. Also surviving are her brothers, Wilson Yon of Columbia, SC and James Clyde Yon of North, South Carolina; three granddaughters; seven great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Saniya Yon; four sisters; and four brothers.
A celebration of Ms. Cooke’s life and legacy will be held Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Olive COGIC, 68 Berkeley Ave., Waterbury. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Waterbury.
