Mrs. Laverne Aleman departed this life on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Hamden Health Care Center in Hamden, CT.
She was born, March 9, 1939, in Gaston County, NC, a daughter of the late George Henry Beard and Mae Emma Brice Beard.
Laverne was initially a dedicated member of St. Frances Catholic Church.
As a young girl, Laverne attended Lincoln Academy School in Kings Mountain, NC. She later moved to New York, where she met and married her beloved husband, the now deceased Oscar Aleman. To this union, they were blessed with two children, Carmen Aleman (Moses) and Andre Aleman (Iesha). After her husband’s death, she relocated to New Haven, CT to be closer to her family. While her children and grandchildren attended St. Frances School, Laverne was often seen volunteering and made herself available to help with various requests. She loved all her family who often reached out for advice or just to chat. They were especially interested in genealogy. Laverne also loved sitting in the shade under the trees in the backyard; and just enjoying life as people stopped by.
In addition to her children, she leaves to cherish precious memories, a sister, Gloria F. Malone of Houston, TX; two brothers, Dana Anthony Beard and David Lee Beard of Gastonia, NC; and a host of grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Emma Louise Beard, Barbara Gorham and Vernell Beard; brothers, Lester Brice, George Ray Beard, Rickey Beard and Leon Beard.
A viewing and visitation will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2022, from 3:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven.
