Hazel S. Harris, 82, of Hamden, formerly of West Haven, entered eternal rest on August 25, 2017. She was the widow of Willie J. Harris.
Mrs. Harris was born in Newberry, SC on June 20, 1935, a daughter of the late John Spearman and Milwee Colbert Spearman.
She was a longtime member of Community Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess and was president of the Margaret C. Willoughby Missionary Society.
She leaves to cherish loving memories, a daughter, Ella H. (Frank) Davis; a sister, Lula (Riley) Jones; grandchildren, Michael and Angela Davis; a sister in-law, Joan Spearman Hallums; 9 great grandchildren; a great great grandson; a step grandson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Sandra Harris; and brothers, Harold, Edward, Nathan and John (Hattie) “June” Spearman.
A celebration of Mrs. Harris’ life and legacy will be held Friday, September 1, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Community Baptist Church, 143 Shelton Ave., New Haven. Viewing will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
