Overseer Gwendolyn Louise Good was born June 11, 1950, to the late Charlie Singleton, Sr. and Leola Short Singleton in Cheraw, South Carolina. On March 16, 2025, she went home to be with the Lord.

Overseer Gwendolyn Good and her family moved to Detroit, Michigan when she was young. She remained there for most of her schooling. At the age of 12, she received Jesus as her Lord and Savior. When she turned 15, she moved to New Haven, CT, to live with her sister, Ruth Fisher, and attended James Hillhouse High School. She graduated in 1968. After high school, she attended OSI School of Business. She was employed at Union Trust Bank until God led her to attend Miracle Valley Bible College in Miracle Valley, Arizona, which was founded by the late Rev. A. A. Allen. During this time, she learned how to hear God’s voice, how to pray and be led by the Holy Spirit. Overseer accepted the call in April 1972. God said that “He was preparing a people that He would bring to her,” and He did.

Following Bible college, Gwendolyn L. Good was united in holy matrimony to John A. Good on December 2, 1972. To this union, two children were born, Devón and Darius.

Soon after getting married, they moved to Ashland, Oregon and served under Pastor Leo Wine at Faith Temple Tabernacle serving as Foreign Missions Secretary and working alongside her husband, while he served as Youth Pastor. They were ordained in ministry under Pastor Wine in 1973. Following the ministry that God had called them to, they moved back to New Haven, Connecticut and began pastoring in May 1975.

She labored as Church Administrator and was the Administrator for the Young Heart’s Day Care Center, an outreach of the church, in which she has served from its inception in 1999 until she retired in November 2023. In addition, she and her husband took several trips to Haiti and Brazil in foreign missions’ work.

Overseer Good attended Gateway Community College, Southern New England Regional Bible School, and Southern New England School of the Bible to further her studies for the ministry. In 2007, she received the Honorary Degree of Theology from the Seventh-Day Adventist Theological Seminary. Reverend Good’s love and desire for the fullness of God was the motivator for her this present day. The scripture that directed her life was Matthew 6:33, “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God…”

Gwendolyn Good’s husband, Pastor John A. Good, went home to be with the Lord in April 2006. They had been married for 34 years. She continued to pastor and carry forth the vision for Bible Gospel Center in Hamden, Connecticut. In May 2013, she became the Overseer of Bible Gospel Center, when her son, Darius Good, was installed as Pastor. She also became Vice President of the Board of Trustees.

In addition to ministering the word and administering the church, Overseer was one of the praise and worship leaders at Bible Gospel Center. She was the director of the choir, headed the women’s ministry department, communion department, and consistently checked on the sick and shut in. She was also a long-standing member of Heritage Chorale of New Haven.

Overseer Gwendolyn Good leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Devón Bellamy (George) of Stratford, Connecticut; a son, Darius Good (Chazareé) of Hamden, Connecticut; eight grandchildren, Ajay Bellamy, Symone Good, Danyelle Bellamy, Trevor Good, Salena Bellamy, Riley Good, John Good, and Daniel Good; one brother, Herbert Singleton (Willie Mae) of Detroit, Michigan; three sisters-in-law, Barbara Reed (Roy) of Dallas, Georgia, Sandra Gibson (Robert) of New Haven, Connecticut, Gladys Rainey (David) of Waterloo, Iowa; brother-in-law, Kenneth Good (Stephanie) of Hamden, Connecticut; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
