Gloria E. Chappelle Catchings, 90, of Hamden, entered into eternal rest on December 31, 2015.
Mrs. Catchings was born on September 4, 1925, in Thomasville, GA, a daughter of the late O.C. Chappelle and Eliza Few Chappelle.
She was a devoted member of Dixwell Avenue Congregational United Church of Christ. Mrs. Catchings loved to knit and will also be remembered for her chocolate chip cookies. Gloria was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
Prior to retiring, she was employed by Mite Corp. as an Accounting Clerk.
She leaves to cherish her memories, close family friends, Karen Alexander Holloway, Sarah Alexander, Maud “M.C.” Alexander; and a host of nieces, nephews, caregivers, other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, Walter T. Catchings; sisters, Mildred Rollins, Dorothy Stevens and Barbara Chappelle; brothers, O.C. Chappelle, Jr. and Eugene Chappelle; and dear friends, Carole Alexander and Ruby Findley.
A celebration of Mrs. Catchings’ life will be held Friday, January 8, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at Dixwell Avenue Congregational United Church of Christ, 217 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Viewing will be held at the church from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
