Clarence Roberts, Jr., 65, of New Haven, departed this life August 30, 2014. He was the husband of Jacqueline Monk Roberts.
Born in Sylvania, GA, July 13, 1949, he was the son of the late Clarence Roberts, Sr. and Cassie Mae Mobley.
Mr. Roberts was an Assistant Principal at Cooperative Arts and Humanities High School in New Haven and was also Pastor of Thomas Chapel Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ in New Haven for 9 years. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc; served on the Fair Rent Commission; and was co-founder of Nubian Sisters Cancer Support Group.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Jamar Roberts; daughters, Janiqua and Jaquanna Roberts; a brother, Bernard Morant (Lisa); sisters, Josie Bryant, Lily Jones (Charles), and Alice Holmes (Gordon); a granddaughter, Kyla Roberts; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Renee Hite Lumpkins; maternal grandparents, Rufus and Alflorence Mobley; and paternal grandparents, Chaney and Wesley Roberts.
A celebration of Mr. Roberts’ life and legacy will be held Friday, September 5, 2014, at 6:00 P.M. at First Church of Christ Center Church on the Green, 250 Temple St., New Haven. Viewing will be held at the church from 4:00-6:00 P.M. Burial will be Saturday at 9:30 A.M. in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
