Charles Douglas Moye, 76, of Seymour, CT (formerly of New Haven), was born July 14, 1947 in New Haven, CT to Charlester Moye and Bertha Darden Moye. He slipped quietly into eternal rest at Griffin Hospital in Derby, CT on May 24, 2024.
He attended Wilbur Cross High School and graduated in 1966. Upon leaving high school, he continued his education at North Carolina A&T University, graduating in 1970 with a degree in Biology. He then spent several years living in North Carolina and then in Macon, Georgia.
In 1978, Charles returned to New Haven with his family and began working for Upjohn Chemical Company until his retirement in 1991. Upon retirement, he then was employed with the New Haven Board of Education as a permanent substitute teacher. He loved teaching and engaging daily with his students. However, due to his health challenges, he could no longer continue teaching. He was a former member of the Prince Hall Masons and a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
In his spare time, Charles loved reading and researching Black History. Prior to his health challenges, you could find him writing short stories, painting, or taking pictures. He was also a longtime NY Giants fan.
Charles was predeceased by his parents, Charlester and Bertha Moye.
He leaves to cherish his memory, three children, Joann “Jody” Douglas of Hamden, CT, Kenneth D. (Marilyn) Moye of Concord, NC and Keith D. (Autumn) Moye of Knightdale, NC; four grandchildren, Keenan D. Moye, Khristian T. Moye, Harlie K. Moye and Chase C. Moye; one sister, Yvonne B. Tyson of Hamden, CT; his longtime friend and companion, Carol Sanders of Seymour, CT; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of Mr. Moye’s life and legacy will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. A viewing will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. The burial will be private.
