JoAnn M. Henderson, 76, of Hamden, peacefully entered eternal rest on December 22, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones. Born in New Haven, CT, on September 27, 1948, she was the beloved daughter of the late Leslie R. Moore, Sr., and the late Dorothy M. Moore.
JoAnn dedicated her career to Amtrak, where she served as an Assistant Conductor until her retirement. Her strong work ethic and kind heart left an indelible mark on colleagues and passengers alike. Beyond her professional accomplishments, JoAnn was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be remembered for her good advice, resilience, and unwavering love for her family and friends.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her son, Andre Moore; daughter, Traci Heard; three brothers, Lawrence Moore, Brian Niblack, and Richard Niblack; two sisters, Roxanne Niblack-Chavis (husband Reginald F. Chavis, Jr.) and Karen Locklear (husband Barry Locklear); three grandchildren, Ryan M. Moore, Brandon M. Moore, and LaNaysia M. Barrett; and three great-grandchildren, Rylee Moore, Raylin Moore, Ryan Moore Jr, and Nala (great-grand dog). JoAnn will also be fondly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
She was predeceased by her brother, Leslie R.Moore, Jr., whose memory she always held close to her heart.
A celebration of JoAnn’s life and legacy will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at New Beginnings Ministries, 21 Pershing St., Hamden. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing at the church from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.
