Lindsey Reno Haughton was born January 12, 1940 to the late Jonas Haughton and Bertha Lee Tyson. He departed this life in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family on Monday January 17, 2022.

He was born in Greenville, NC and left at a young age and moved to New Haven, CT. He graduated from Hillhouse High School. During his high school years he played baseball, football and basketball. Basketball was his favorite although he loved all three sports. After graduating from high school, he continued playing baseball at Goffe street park where he was known for hitting home runs and sometimes hitting the ball out of the park.

He had been employed by United Nuclear, Amtrak and he retired from the Department of Corrections. He was also a member of East Rock Lodge #141 in New Haven where he served as a Trustee. Friday nights were his night out to go down to the Elks to shoot pool with the guys.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 29 years, Dorothy Haughton. One sister Geraldine Haynes, Four daughters, Renee Haughton, Monica Haughton, Cindy Beth Haughton, and Dawn Haughton. His step-children Yolanda Wilson, Bobby Wilson and Tyrone Harvey. Five grandchildren Gerald Robinson, Samara Cates, Tia Haughton, Rashod Haughton, Taniya Gatison. Six great-grand-children Shamya Cates, Adrian Smith (A.D), Amari Haughton, Gerald Robinson Jr, Londyn Robinson and Gecari Robinson.

He was predeceased by a sister Dorothy M. Shepard-Green & one granddaughter Tamara Cates.

A celebration of Mr. Haughton’s life and legacy will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. A viewing will be held from 10:00-11:00 A.M. The burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Anyone attending the services must adhere to all COVID-19 safety precautions.
