Charles J. “Playboy” Tanner the son of the late Annie Griffith Nalley and Julius Tanner, was born on April 13, 1948 in Stamford, CT. He passed away on June 26 at Hospice in Branford, CT.
Charles resided in New Haven for many years. Charles graduated from Wilbur Cross High and Cybick Tailoring and Design School in New York, NY. He was a Bespoke Tailor for over 25 yrs in the New Haven area. Charles was a server at Immanuel Baptist Church soup kitchen.
Left to mourn his loss are sons, Anthony Tanner of New Haven, CT and Marc Tanner (Tanteka) of Norfolk, VA;; four grandchildren, Kamerye Tanner of New Haven, CT, and Kennedie, Ryan and Marc Tanner II of Norfolk VA; siblings, James Tanner (Tracy), Dwight Tanner (Otelia), Anne Griffin, Gloria Tanner, Alice Bragg and Deborah Tanner. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
A celebration of Mr. Tanner’s life and legacy will be held Thursday, July 2, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Viewing will be held from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
I am so sorry for learning of Uncle Playboy’s passing. He was an example for his community and family. His niece; June Sanders and I were the best of friends, she was always very proud of Uncle Playboy.
