Terrence J. Simmons, 75, of New Haven, entered eternal rest on June 12, 2016. He was the widower of Barbara Donaldson Simmons.
Mr. Simmons was born in New Haven, CT on July 20, 1940, a son of the late George Simmons and Bernice Hagman Simmons.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, honorably discharged in 1965.
Terrence was employed at Sargent Manufacturing in New Haven for many years. Additionally, he worked at Southern Connecticut State University as a Maintenance Superintendent for thirty years while also working at FedEx Express for twelve years. During his employment at SCSU, Terrence obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in New Haven where he faithfully served as a member of the Community Lunch Program and Steel Band. Terrence also served on the Antillean Association and the Descendants of the CT 29th Civil War Group.
He is survived by his daughter, Danika D. Simmons; granddaughter, Jazmine Patton (Garland Jr.); sister, Judith Garcia; brother, Ronald Simmons (Barbara); nieces and nephews, Dolores Garcia-Blocker, L. Mitchell Garcia (Jaqueline), Rosalind Garcia and Monique Arsene (Florin). Additionally, he leaves behind a host of other nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of Mr. Simmons’ life and legacy will be held Friday, June 24, 2016, at 11:00 AM at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 111 Whalley Ave., New Haven. Viewing will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
