James T. Mason, 79, of East Haven, departed this life on April 26, 2022.
Mr. Mason was born in Manhattan, NY on February 2, 1943, the son of the late Clarence Mason and Lona Beasley Mason. He grew up in the Bronx, NY where he excelled at track and field as a sprinter. After graduating from Samuel Gompers Industrial High School for Boys, Mr. Mason found employment in the electrical trade.
Upon graduating from Herbert H. Lehman College in the Bronx, NY, Mr. Mason worked for Insurance of North America (INA) and then CIGNA Insurance Company in Bloomfield, CT. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the State of Connecticut Department of Social Services as a Child Support Investigator.
He enjoyed traveling and cherished his trips to Alaska, the Rocky Mountains, and Cuba to name a few. He loved history, meteorology, and cruising on his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle. Mr. Mason was a devoted member of Liberty Community Church in North Haven.
He is survived by sons, James I. Mason and his partner Lajeune Hollis; and Eric L. Mason; a daughter, Dr. Melissa D. Mason and her husband, Dr. Edwin J.W. Camp; sisters, Jacqueline A. Mason-Hedgmon and her husband Jimmie Hedgmon and Adrianne P. Bullock; three grandchildren, Nicole D. Mason, Erika S. Mason and Madeline G. Camp; one great-grandson, Mason Dean Christiano; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Graveside service will be held Thursday, May 5, 2022, at 12:00 P.M. at Beaverdale Memorial Park.
