William T. Owens, affectionately known as Tommy, was born on April 16, 1936, in New London, NC, to the late William and Della Pergee Owens. As the eldest son, he embraced the values of faith and family from a young age, faithfully attending church alongside his parents.

Tommy received his education in Stanly County and furthered his studies at A&T College of Greensboro, NC. His journey led him to New Haven, CT, where he met and married the love of his life, the late Mary Newberry of Georgia. Together, they built a life filled with love and joy, raising their two cherished children, Michael and Robin.

Family was at the heart of Tommy’s life. He found fulfillment in providing for his loved ones and creating a home of warmth and care.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and memories to be cherished by his sons, Leon (Phyllis) and Michael (Stephanie); his daughter, Robin; his sister, Margaree (Daye) of Durham, NC; his brother, James Sr. (Joyce) of New Jersey; three grandsons, Leon Jr. (Bev), Nicholas, and Jonathan; his granddaughter, Robin; nephews, Virgil and James Jr. (Vickie); nieces, Sierra, Michelle (Keith), and Marquita (Adrian); nine great-grandchildren; five great-nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends. Special bonds were shared with his brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Berniece Edwards and Eugene and Mildred Kenny of Connecticut, whose steadfast love and support meant the world to him.

Tommy’s love, kindness, and dedication to his family will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
