Teresa Burroughs of North Haven, CT, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 17, 1942, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Mr. Antonio Dejesus and Mrs. Carmen Dejesus.
In 1950, Teresa moved with her family to Brooklyn, NY, where she graduated from Washington Irving All-Girls High School in Manhattan. Following her high school education, she pursued a course in Radiology at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, aiming to become an X-ray Technician.
In 1959, Teresa met Robert Burroughs, whom she later married on July 12, 1974, after moving to Connecticut in 1968. She was widowed on October 26, 2024.
Teresa commenced her professional journey as an assistant at Legal Aid in 1988 and retired in 2010. Prior to her tenure at Legal Aid, she worked as a daycare provider, demonstrating her dedication to helping others. This period also marked her baptism as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, a faith that became central to her life.
Her role at Legal Aid provided her with a platform to make significant contributions to those in need. Despite being an assistant, Teresa went above and beyond her duties, ensuring people received the necessary help, even if it meant stepping outside her assigned role. Her compassion and dedication earned her the admiration and respect of her coworkers.
As a Legal Assistant, Teresa regarded her responsibilities as more than merely processing paperwork or adhering to protocols. She embraced her position as an opportunity to support individuals during challenging times, offering not only legal assistance but also a listening ear, comforting words, and hope.
Teresa was a dedicated member of Jehovah’s Witnesses, baptized on October 27, 1974. She served as a regular pioneer for 27 years and guided seven individuals to baptism.
Teresa is survived by her two sisters and brother: Wilma, Aida, and Joe DeJesus, as well as their children: Audrey, Rita, Larry Jr., Jose, and Carmen. She also leaves behind her five children: Anthony Burroughs (Awilda), Christine Sherwood (Michael), Dondi Burroughs (Surbrina), Bobby Burroughs (Jessica), and Terrance Burroughs (Michelle); eleven grandchildren: Alyssa, Brandon, Christina, Reggie, Dondi Jr., Kayla, Mekhi, Donovan, Dominique, Ballad, and Robert III; and nine great-grandchildren: Lailah, Eiress, Ahliis, Damari, Charlotte, Nazmina, Nicholas, Haven, and Jonnu Jr.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. at Lake Whitney Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 885 Wintergreen Avenue, Hamden, CT 06514.
The service will be live-streamed via Zoom:

To the loved ones of Teresa Burroughs:
Although we did not have the privilege of knowing Sister Burroughs in this system, we sincerely hope to meet her under far better conditions to exist in paradise. (Rev. 21:4) We pray that Jehovah’s promises, which we know cannot fail, will support and strengthen each of you until you are reunited with her in the not-too-distant future. (Job 14:14,15; John 5:28,29 (a)).
With all of our love and heartfelt prayers,

To The Burroughs Family,
You all have our deepest condolences and sympathy. Just know we are praying with and for you during this difficult time. God won’t put more on you, then you can bear. The Burroughs children grew up on Admiral Street and Mrs. Burroughs would yell Bobby’s name when it was time to come home during the Summer months. Bobby would be visiting my brother and father laughing and telling jokes.
Respectfully,
Bernard & Debra Smith

To the Burroughs Family. You-all have my deepest condolences. Many years going back with your family. Jehovah has really blessed your family to have your Dad and Mom as parents and grand-parents. As promised from Jehovah, you will soon be able to have that experience again. I look forward to that time of seeing them also as they had so much love that spread abundantly to whomever they were in the company of. I love them dearly!
