Street McKinley Murphy, age 84, entered eternal rest on Thursday, August 26, 2021. He was born on September 2, 1936, in Lugoff, SC, the eldest of nine children born to the late Calvin Murphy and Addie Harris Murphy.

He graduated from Connecticut College with a bachelor’s degree in urban studies. His history-making graduating class was the first co-ed class for the college (previously an all-women’s college).

Street McKinley served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Frankfort, Germany. After receiving an honorable discharge, he obtained employment for the Olin Chemicals Corporation and retired after 30 years of employment.

He joined the Prince Hall Masonic family in 1971 and held the office of Commander-In-Chief of the New Haven Consistory #7.

Those who remain to celebrate his life are his wife, Mary Frances Anderson Talley Murphy; daughter, Deirdre Murphy; stepchildren, Leatta Sutton, Leroy Talley and Leonard Talley; grandchildren, Tiffany Murphy, Britney Murphy and Jesse Currier; his step-grandchildren; six siblings, Ernest Murphy, Patsy Williams, Dora Woods, Bernice Porterfield, Cheryl Murphy and Cressie Murphy-David; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Street was predeceased by his son, Lawrence Murphy; and sisters, Margaret Murphy and Perrill Murphy.

His favorite scripture was Matthew 22:39, “Thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself.”
