Robert John Jackson, affectionately known as Bobby, was born on September 14, 1949, at Grace New Haven Hospital to Peggy and John Jenkins. He was raised by his stepfather, Mr. George Dennis Jackson, and spent his entire life in New Haven, Connecticut.

Bobby graduated from James Hillhouse High School in 1969, where he participated in many sports. He enjoyed a fulfilling career, working for the Greater New Haven Transit, the Hamden Department of Motor Vehicles, and the New Haven Fire Department for 27 years. After relocating to Charlotte, North Carolina, he continued to serve his community by working for the Parks Department and The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

A dedicated member of Rockwell A.M.E. Zion Church, Bobby was an active participant on the Usher Board and sang in the Men’s Choir. He also loved coaching, having spent time coaching Pop Warner Football and both boys’ and girls’ basketball. Bobby had a deep passion for sports, both as a player and a fan, and his favorite heroes were Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown, Richard Pryor, and Fred Sanford. His favorite football team was the Oakland Raiders!!

Bobby is survived by his loving wife, Christine Jackson; his daughters Alizabeth M. Jackson and Amber Jackson; his step-daughter, Rachel McGlothen and step-son Marvin Davis; his grandchildren, Aryk (Ashley) Jackson, Ebonie Vaught, Chea Coy, and Atlanta Coy; his great-grandson, Amari Jackson and bonus great granddaughter, Meagan Jackson; his son-in-law Terry Vaught; his sisters Diane (Carl) Dixon, Georgiana Bradley, and Donna Torres; his brothers Dennis (Bena) Jackson and Donald Broadnax Jr. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.

Bobby was predeceased by his mother, Peggy Broadnax, and his stepfather, Mr. George Jackson.

A celebration of Mr. Jackson’s life and legacy will be held Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Bible Gospel Center, 143 Leeder Hill Dr., Hamden, followed by the burial in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. A viewing will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 A.M.
