Mary Elizabeth Marshall departed this life on August 22, 2016 at home in Hamden, CT surrounded by friends.

She was born on June 4th 1927 in Washington DC to the late Thelma Mitchell and James Walker.

She attended school in Washington DC before moving to Connecticut in 1946.

Mary retired from Yale New Haven Hospital after 38 years of employment and was well respected by her co-workers, physicians, and patients.

Mary loved to travel with friends, taking cruises, and trips to Venezuela, Florida, Las Vegas, Mexico, and Italy. She loved to walk and could be found many mornings with her walking buddies at the Wilbur Cross High School track. Mary was a kind and loving person with a good sense of humor.

She leaves to cherish her memory: sister-in-law Ora Mitchell, long time friends, Donna and Jim Ferraro, Diane and Andrew Esposito, Rose Battaglino, Joan and Anthony Testa, Marisa and Steve Hale, Nicolas Testa, Idella Streater, Rose and Garfield Coleman, and several nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother Robert Mitchell.

Many thanks to her friends at the Congregate Housing for welcoming her to their community, especially Teresa Bartolotta, Joanne (and Josie) Amarone, and Nancy Black. Our heartfelt gratitude to Mary’s nurse Jackie Joyner for the love and care she provided during her final days.

Viewing and visitation will be held Thursday, August 25, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Burial will be private.
