Keith Shon Rodgers, affectionately known as “Shon,” departed this life on January 9, 2023.
Shon was born on September 19, 1959 at Grace Memorial Hospital in New Haven, CT. He was born to Ellwood Jean Coleman and the late James R. Rodgers. As a child, he was raised in St. Matthews U.F.W.B. Church, where he attended services with his mother and grandmother.
Shon attended school in the heart of New Haven, where he excelled academically and socially throughout his adolescence. In 1977, he graduated from James Hillhouse High School. From there, Shon built a successful career working for companies like New Haven Savings Bank and SNET. Shon later pursued a career at Yale New Haven Hospital, where he was eventually promoted to Lead Customer Service Representative in the Service Response Center. He remained at Yale for seventeen years.
Throughout his life, Shon’s favorite hobbies included traveling, fine dining, shopping, and spending time with friends and family. Shon loved to entertain and was known as an amazing cook who made every dish with love. He would often prepare meals for family parties, and he loved to try new recipes. There was no disputing the fact that Shon loved and adored his mother, with whom he shared a special bond. He also enjoyed spending time with his godchildren, who loved and admired him dearly.
Above all, Shon’s kind spirit and giving heart was a blessing to all who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed, and his memories will forever be cherished.
He leaves to hold his memory: his beloved mother Ellwood Jean Coleman, his brother Guy Rodgers (Yasmin), his niece, three nephews, his three godchildren A.J. Council, Taylor Council, Myles Council, and a host of family and friends.
Shon is predeceased by his father James R. Rodgers, grandmother Marion Coleman, grandfather Garfield Coleman, aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service to celebrate Shon’s life will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Matthews U.F.W.B Church, 400 Dixwell Avenue, New Haven, CT.
