Joseph Mungo, 83, died Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Apple Rehab Laurel Woods in East Haven, CT.
He was born in Chesterfield, SC on November 12, 1933, a son of the late Leroy and Adelle Mungo.
He was employed for numerous years as a truck driver. He was a former Deacon who loved his family and would do what he could to help. He had an amazing sense of humor that brought laughter to everyone. His hobbies included working on cars and teaching his nieces and nephews how to drive.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories, his wife, Susan Mungo; children, Joshua and Joanne Mungo and Jenia Butler; stepchildren, Bishop James Baker, Jimmy Tyson, Weslyn Chapell, Carolyn Winfield, Gwendolyn Wyche, Wesley and Stevie Stevenson; siblings, Lecola and Curtis Mungo, Viola Graham and Evangelist Jennie Simmons; and host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was predeceased by his stepmother, Annie Mae Mungo who helped raise him; a stepson, Milton Tyson; and siblings, Roberta, Alberta, Leroy, Sidney, Minor Lee, and David Mungo and Sarah Wilson.
A celebration of Mr. Mungo’s life and legacy will be held Thursday, April 20, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Viewing will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery
