Hubert Simon peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, surrounded by family and friends at Masonicare, Wallingford, Connecticut. He was born on April 17, 1940, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to the late Annie Simon and Jackson Simon, Sr. Hubert graduated from Atkins High School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, before relocating to Connecticut.

Hubert was employed by Amtrak Railroad as a Trackman before his retirement after 27 years of dedicated service. He was a member of Promise Land Church of God in West Haven. One of his favorite pastimes was spending time each day reading the Bible. An avid bowler, Hubert had been a member of a local bowling league and enjoyed bowling with friends.

He leaves to cherish his memory: His beloved wife of 44 years, Patricia, a son, Hubert (“Herbie”) Berkeley, a daughter, Shayla (Kenyatta) Byrd, and five grandchildren, Shanice, Alisha, Brandon, Jeshanah Berkeley, and Kennedy Byrd, one brother, James Lee Simon.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Jackson, Jr. and Willie Simon.

Hubert’s warm smile, pleasant personality and quiet presence will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

The family is grateful for the exceptional care and concern they received from Masonicare Home Health and Hospice.

A celebration of Mr. Simon’s life and legacy will be held Friday, September 2, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Promise Land Church of God, 240 Burwell Road, West Haven, Connecticut. Viewing will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
