
Doris A. Chadwick, 87, of New Haven, CT, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2025. She was the beloved widow of Thomas A. Chadwick.
Born on September 13, 1937, in Loganville, GA, she was the daughter of the late Sylvester Barker, Sr. and Josephine Barker. Doris dedicated many years to her work as a Catalog Assistant at Yale University before retiring.
A lifelong member of the former St. James Unity Holiness Church in New Haven, Doris was known for her kindness, faith, and unwavering love for her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories with her son, Vouise “Vice” Fonville (Darlene); her sister, Lessie Askew (Cecil); six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was predeceased by sons, Gernard and Bernard Chadwick, and her siblings: Lincoln, Louis, James, Sylvester Jr., Phillip, Matthew, Otha, Mildred and Vera Mae Barker.
A celebration of Doris’ life will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Greater Mt. Carmel Pentecostal Church, 399 Goodrich St., Hamden, CT. The service will be followed by burial at the State Veterans’ Cemetery in Middletown, CT. A viewing for family and friends will take place from 9:00-10:00 AM at the church.

To the Chadwick Family. Our hearts were saddened to hear about Aunt DOT. She was truly one of a kind. What kind and gentle spirit that she displayed. Aunt DOT was and amazing prayer warrior. Who loved our GOD with all her heart. Loving her family, church and such amazing cook. Thank you for being apart of our CHADWICK family and loving our Uncle Tom. Take your welled deserve rest.

When I think of Mrs Chadwick I think of Mr. Chadwick and Bernard. She said things had changed, I believe she missed her family that unexpectedly predeceased her.
