Bertha Lee Pugh Watts, 81, of Hamden, entered eternal rest on July 5, 2023.

Ms. Watts was born in Bethel, NC on December 10, 1941, a daughter of the late Rasper Pugh, Sr. and Lossie Bell Pugh.

Prior to retiring, she was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as a Laser Operator.

Ms. Watts was a longtime and dedicated member of Sweet Hope Plain Freewill Baptist Church in New Haven where she served as the Young Adult Choir and Mass Choir Director, Church Secretary, member of the Joys of Faith and Willing Workers Choirs and the Helping Hands committee. She was an active member of Grandparents on the Move and previously sang with the Golden Echoes and Skylets Gospel Choirs.

She leaves to cherish loving memories, her sons, Easper Watts, Sr. (Shaina) and Erskin Watts, Jr. (Rosemary); brothers, Alonzo Pugh, Floyd Pugh (Rosa), Thomas Pugh (Eva) and William Pugh (Rosemary); sister, Edna Leggette; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; six adopted grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by a son, Eric Watts; brothers, Louis Ray Pugh and Rasper Pugh, Jr.; a sister, Dorothy Bryant; sisters in-law, Mary Pugh, Fairy Mae Pugh and Ingrid Pugh; and brothers in-law, Billy Leggette and Jimmy Bryant.

A viewing and visitation will be held Monday, July 10, 2023, from 10:00-11:00 AM at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. A graveside service will immediately follow at 11:30 AM at Evergreen Cemetery, 769 Ella Grasso Blvd. New Haven.
