Alphonza Mazyck, 80, of North Haven, entered eternal rest on October 8, 2025. Born in St. Stephen, SC on March 20, 1945, he was the son of the late John Mazyck and Florence Pickney Mazyck.
Alphonza was a proud member of the Teamsters Union and was employed as a P&D Driver at Roadway Express, Inc. for 37 years until his retirement.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his sons Jermaine Alphonza Mazyck and Tavares Lamar Mazyck Sr; grandchildren, Breonna Staton, Onaji A. Mazyck, Coran Mazyck, Desiree Mazyck, Tavares L. Mazyck Jr., Tahjai L. Mazyck, Tyzai D. Mazyck, Nariyah Mazyck, Dwannah McKnight-Medina; great grandchildren: Noah Caleb Goncalves, Caleb Isaac Goncalves and Zylis Mazyck; siblings: Lucretia Howard and James Allen Mazyck (Sheila); Kathleen L. Barker-Mazyck, his former wife and mother of his children, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased in death by his siblings, John A. Sumpter, Elijah John Mazyck Jr., Francis Mazyck, Samuel “Pappy” Mazyck, Dorothy Howard, Mildred Stephens, Elizabeth Myers and Thirlestine Scott; grandson: Christian Pasquine.
A celebration of Alphonza’s life and legacy will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 11:00am at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00am to 11:00am. The service will be livestreamed via the following link:
