Aliva H. Mabry, 91, of Hamden, entered eternal rest on January 30, 2018. She was the widow of Leroy Mabry, Sr.
Mrs. Mabry was born in Salters, SC on September 14, 1926, daughter of the late Richard Hugee and Carrie Nelson Hugee.
Aliva was a longtime member of New Haven Church of Christ. Prior to retiring, she was employed for 22 years by the City of New Haven Board of Education as a Teacher’s Aide.
She leaves to cherish loving memories, daughters, Lorraine Bullock (Hugh, Jr.), Carrie Johnson, Deborah Alston (John, Jr.) and Louise Mabry; an adopted sister, Grace Prioleau; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a son, Leroy Mabry, Jr.
A celebration of Mrs. Mabry’s life and legacy will be held Monday, February 5, 2018 at 11:00 AM at New Haven Church of Christ, 16 Gem St., New Haven. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

I think about what a long, eventful life Miss Aliva had: not long enough for those that miss her. But whether she goes to heaven to reign with Jesus or whether she is resurrected to be one of the “meek that shall inherit the earth,” Miss Aliva has eternal Lon life in store for her future. I will truly miss Sis. Mabry. She was always so sweet and very appreciative of even the smallest gestures. I remember her sending me a thank you card for my sympathy card. (These days, many show little appreciation for much larger gifts/gestures.). You are in my prayers during this difficult time.
