Zetilda V. Sterling, 91, of Hamden, formerly of Bella Vista Senior Living Community in New Haven, was called to her eternal home of rest from Yale-New Haven Hospital on October 17, 2015. She was the widow of Noel Sterling.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, April 5, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Egbert Lawrence and Rosa Anderson Lawrence.

Mrs. Sterling was a member of Christ Deliverance Church of God in Christ and Macedonia Church of God in Christ.

Prior to retiring, she was employed at Yale University in the Housekeeping Dept. in the president’s residence.

She is survived by a daughter, Olga Wright; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by a son, Donald Lawrence; a grandson, Robert Ford; one brother and four sisters.

A celebration of Mrs. Sterling’s life and legacy will be held Saturday, October 24, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. at Macedonia Church of God in Christ, 151 Newhall St., New Haven. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, October 23, 2015, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven.
