Rufus C. Woods, Jr., 94, of Hamden, entered eternal rest on February 24, 2019. He was the widower of Cora L. Woods.

Mr. Woods was born in Anderson County, SC on June 28, 1924, a son of the late Rufus C. Woods, Sr. and Eulamae Newell Woods.

Prior to retiring, he was employed by the New York City Transit Authority as a Motorman. He also served as pastor of Faith Holy Church of the Living God in New York for many years and was a WWII Army.

He leaves to cherish loving memories, daughters, Melvenia Y. Woods-Monroe, Dinella W. Dodd and Vernetta N. Smith; a son, Edward D. Woods; brothers, Jackson, John Andrew and Frederick Woods; a sister, Carolyn Woods Johnson; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by sons, Charles Timothy Woods and Rufus Michael Woods; brothers, Daniel S., Truman W., David, Artis, Darnell and Jacob Woods; sisters, Cannis Suggs and Nellie Woods Oliver; and a grandson.

A celebration of Mr. Woods’ life and legacy will be held Friday, March 1, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Christian Union Full Gospel Outreach Ministries, 426 Washington Ave., West Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
