The Rev. Timothy Howard, age 75, of Waterbury, CT, became absent from the body and present with the Lord on Tuesday, February 6, 2017 at Bishop Wicke Health and Rehabilitation Center in Shelton, CT.

A very special gift of God, Timothy was born on July 5, 1941, the ninth of twelve children born to the late Eugene and Sallie Mae Howard in New Zion, South Carolina. Timothy grew up in New Zion and graduated from Walker Gamble High School in 1959. Shortly thereafter, he transitioned to New Haven, Connecticut where he found work and joined several of his older siblings who had come North looking for employment. It was during this time that Timothy enlisted in the Armed Forces serving in Korea during peacetime.

After his stint in the armed services, Timothy returned to his original job at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft while attending St. Paul UAME Church in New Haven, CT where he received his call to ministry and preached his Trial Sermon. After Ordination, Rev. Howard served his first pastorate at Macedonia UAME Church, Providence, RI before transferring to The A.M.E. Zion Church where he served for more than forty years in the itinerant ministry. He served congregations both in North Carolina, New Jersey, and Connecticut before being appointed as the Presiding Elder of the Hartford District of the New England Conference in 2005. He was honorably retired from this post in October of 2016, after having served for more than a decade as a very loving, committed, and effective leader of the Hartford District and The New England Conference of the A.M.E. Zion Church.

Rev. Howard leaves a legacy of love and cherished memories with his wife, Mrs. Mary L. Howard. His children, Timothy Jr. and Tamira Howard-Bacote (Derek) of Kissimmee, FL.; Todd Eugene Howard of Avenelle, NJ. Twenty-one grandchildren and Fourteen great grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings: Virginia Bartley, Carrie Reed and Elizabeth of CT; Edith Burgess and Vernal (Helen) Howard of South Carolina. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, god-children and many friends. Rev. Howard was predeceased by one grandson Tyrell Donte Howard and siblings: Eugene, Jr., Willis, Clarence, Ernest and Norween Howard. A devoted and caring assistant, Mrs. Julia Jackson of Bridgeport, CT also survives.

Services for Rev. Howard will take place on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at his church, The Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church, 2051 Main Street, Hartford, CT. Viewing and Calling Hours will be from 9:00 – 11:00 am. The Service of Triumph will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m with Rev. Dr. Terry L. Jones, Sr., Presiding Elder/Pastor, Presiding. The Eulogist will be Bishop Dennis V. Proctor. Burial will take place at The State of Connecticut Veterans’ Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT following the service. Following the interment, the family will receive friends at Cross Street AME Zion Church, 440 West Street, Middletown,
