Mrs. Mattie B. Sims, age eighty-seven, a former resident of New Haven, Connecticut, transitioned into eternal life on Friday, June 10, 2016, while residing at the home of her devoted daughter Teresa Sims in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Sims was born December 2, 1928, in Greenville, North Carolina, daughter of the late Amos Thigpen and the late Flossie Commer Thigpen.

Mrs. Sims was united in Christian fellowship with St. Matthew’s U.F.W.B. Church in New Haven, CT.

The widow of Cecil N. Sims, she was also preceded in death by her two sons, Larry and Gardell Sims.

Mrs. Sims leaves to honor her legacy and cherish loving and lasting memories: one sister, Betty Moore of Hamden, CT; six children, Cecil Sims Jr. of New Haven, CT, Teresa A. Sims of Harrisburg, PA, Deacon Harold Sims of Savannah, GA, Jerold Sims of New Haven, CT, Wydell Sims Sr. of Hamden, CT, and Kenneth Sims of Meriden, CT; twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends.

Mrs. Sims’ life will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, June 17th, with viewing/visitation 10-11 a.m., at her church, St. Matthew’s U.F.W.B. Church, 400 Dixwell Avenue, New Haven, CT 06511
