Hoyt G. “Peanut Man” Cox, 80, of New Haven, entered eternal rest on August 8, 2018. He was the husband of Mary Cox.

Mr. Cox was born in Ayden, NC on April 14, 1938, a son of the late Clennie and Fannie Cox.

Prior to its closing, Hoyt was a longtime employee at the Stop & Shop Warehouse in North Haven.

In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish loving memories, his children, Fannie, Eric and Cynthia Rogers, Loria (Ronnie) Brown and Webster Lucky; brothers, Rev. E. Ray (Maxine) Cox and Sammy Brimague Cox; sisters, Shirley Ussery and Ethyl (William) Sirk; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by brothers, William Earl, James Clinton and Curtis Ray Cox; sisters, Annie Lane, Virgue Canady, Deloris McCray; and Lillie Bea Cox; and a grandson, Christopher Rogers.

A celebration of Mr. Cox’s life and legacy will be held Friday, August 17, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew’s UFWB Church, 400 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Viewing will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
