Alonzo Davis, 69 of Hamden, CT was born in Selma, AL on June 30, 1951, a son of the late Bessie Davis. He entered eternal rest on February 4, 2021.

Alonzo received his Degree in Respiratory Therapy from Syracuse Upstate Medical College in Syracuse, New York. He worked as a Respiratory Therapist for 40 years for the Hospital of Saint Raphael. Prior to retirement, he was employed the last 4 years at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Alonzo was a brother and uncle. He loved to laugh, people-watch and spend time with his family. During his retirement, he volunteered at the FISH Food Pantry and also as a Tax Preparer. He was a compassionate person who always supported his family through good times and bad.

Alonzo is survived by his sisters, Bennie M. Watkins and Gloria Davis-Delancy (Obed); brothers, Benjamin William McCurdy and Michael Paul Davis; nephew, James McCurdy; nieces, Rosemary Williams, Diane Watkins and Donna Watkins(John); great nephews, Michael Houston and Andre Watkins (Olivia); as well as nieces, Taylor Nicolle Mitchell and Vaniah Capri Delancy; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Julius, Junior, and Jerome Davis; a sister, Rosemarie Davis, great aunt, Rosa “Aunt Love” Etheridge and great uncle, Roosevelt “Uncle Mack” Smitherman.

The family sends special thanks and deepest appreciation to all the medical staff at Smilow Hospital who cared for Alonzo.

A Walk-through Viewing will be held Saturday, February 13, 2021 from 8:00-9:00 A.M. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. A Celebration of Alonzo’s life will begin at 9:00 A.M. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and to adhere to safety precautions, the Celebration of Life will be limited to a maximum of 30 people. The Celebration of Life will be livestreamed via the following link: https://youtu.be/CFendw_trSs. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
